The Calgary Stampeders announced that nose-tackle Sheldon Napastuk has retired. The front seven for Calgary's defense is about to look quite a bit different this year with Napastuk's retirement at the age of 33.
Napastuk played in 126 regular season CFL games including 70 in a Stampeder uniform and two Western Semi-Finals. He was originally drafted by the Edmonton Eskimos in the third round (25th overall) of the 1996 CFL Canadian College Draft. He attended the 1997 Edmonton Eskimos training camp and was released by the Eskimos just prior to the start of the regular season. In 1998 he attended the Hamilton Tiger-Cat training camp and saw action as an offensive lineman. He would be released prior to the start of the regular season and signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders as a free agent in August of 1999.
Sheldon decided to retire and move on with his life that included a well paying job (sometimes not the case in the CFL), and the expected arrival of his first child.
