TEN TURNOVERS – Stamps 15 – Toronto 48

July 12, 2007 · No Comments

What could be worse than the spanking received against Saskatchewan? How about an even bigger walloping against Toronto. Calgary talked the talked but couldn't even get their shoes on correct with things going bad, to worse, to disgraceful.

Nothing Works for Stamps - Big Changes Coming?

When Denny Creehan, Calgary defensive coordinator and associate coach said our defensive line would go through some growing pains nobody thought it would be this bad. But hang on, if the defense is supposed to be growing, why isn't the offence at least putting points on the board?

Since the Stamps brass took all the money from the defense and threw it at the offensive line and wide receivers. Yes, there is some growing pains on defense, but they have their moments of creating turnovers and offering big hits. The defense is playing around expectations--not so for the offense.

Ten turnovers all created by the offense is horrific. That number needs to be zero next game or the Stamps should call in U of C for replacements. The entire offense needs to be re-looked, play calling scrutinized, and opportunities taken.

Although Burris wasn't playing horrific, he wasn't playing average either. Akili Smith was called in early in the second quarter and unfortunately shows little promise to be the next Dave Dickenson or Jeff Garcia. He threw for two interceptions and did very little to help Calgary, in fact, did worse. It wasn't the right decision to pull Burris so early,

Of course, the defense did give up 48 points. Slant and crossing routes killed Calgary all game. Defensive adjustments made? Zero. Maybe they adjusted, but it didn't help any. Some players really need to pick up their game including Bannister, Clemons, and Scott Coe who's taken the place of Clark in the middle but can't seem to make a play.

In a series of unfortunate events, early in the third Toronto appeared to have scored. Arland Bruce and friends danced up a storm galore. Too bad for them, the call was brought back due to an offside call. The very next play Bishop scrambled for the endzone, was hit, and ended up leaving the game holding his right wrist. The Argos would make it 34-0 two plays later. But that would mean third stringer Mike Mcmahon would play the rest of the game.

Could Calgary defense stop a third string quarterback? Not a chance. Could Calgary actually score a point? HAHAHA. Calgary could not cover Bruce all game, played weak covers and zones from start to finish, and shouldn't have expected anything difference.

George Cortez's offense loves Boerighter. He plays almost every play at the expense of the likes of Copeland, Howell, and Lewis. Why doesn't he use the league's best running back? Some interesting play calling that involves the running back would be nice....

The only good news about this game is that the Stamps won the forth quarter and they play Toronto again next week. There is a high probably Stamps will exact a level of revenge at home with a third string quarter back in the opposite field. One can only hope since there's nowhere to go from now on but up.

Notes: Mookie Mitchell came close to breaking the all time reception yards for the Argos organization but fell 28 yards short. Bannister left the game in the third. Bishop left the game in the third with a possible broken right wrist. Browner got his first interception and TD in the forth.
