Defensive Casualities: Chatman Released, Brightful Signed

July 17, 2007 · No Comments

It appears that the two blowout losses have claimed the first casualties--all on defence. This has come as a bit of a surprise to some, but then again, when you invest all your money in wide receivers you can't exactly let them go. It appears the first to go was defensive back Jermaine Chatman who was a steady back last season but was schooled by Dj Flick against Saskatchewan, and then again by Arland Bruce against Toronto.

Stamps Sign Three on D

The Stamps signed Linebacker Mike Labinjo, Defensive Backs Dwaine Carpenter and Lamont Brightful. Defensive Backs Jermaine Chatman and Brandon Haw were releases.

Labinjo was drafted by the Stampeders in the third round of the 2003 CFL Canadian Draft. He has spent the past three seasons in the NFL with both the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins.

Last season Brightful joined the Montreal Alouettes late in the season where he played in eight games recording two tackles and two interceptions. Before joining the Stampeders he played for the Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins in the NFL.

Carpenter joins the Stampeders having played four seasons in the NFL. In 2003, he joined the San Francisco 49ers, where he spent two seasons. The following two years he would go on to sign with the St. Louis Rams and play in a total of 42 NFL games.
