Date: July 3rd, 2008 - Commenwealth Stadium, Edmonton
Kickoff @ 8PM MST - Radio: QR 770; TV: TSN
The Calgary Stampeders travel north to the provincial capital to kickstart the provincial battle against the Edmonton Eskimos. Calgary won its season opener 28-18 at home against the Lions last week while Edmonton dropped its first game of the 2008 CFL season on the road in Regina, 34-13 to the Roughriders.
No major changes on the O. With perhaps the most experienced and potent offence Calgary will look to increase their point production and keep QB Henry Burris and RB Reynolds in the fold. Jermains Copeland has a lively blog post over at the Stamps blog citing his disdain for grass fields.
I don’t think grass fields should even be legal in the world today. I thought that all of the grass fields were gone; that everyone had jumped up into the new millennium, but Edmonton is still lagging around with grass that’s terrible.
and regarding the change in footwear,
I think seven-studs should be outlawed because the cleats are terrible and the studs drive into the bottom of your feet.
Classic Cope. WR Ryan Thelwell had the best single-game performance of any Stampeder receiver in 2007 and came was against the Eskimos on Labour Day that he had seven catches for 199 yards and a touchdown. This time around he may be replaced by rookie WR Jackson.
Perhaps the biggest changes will be on D yet again. Calgary's D came through against BC but it remains to be seen if they can be consistent with so many rookies yet again on the front lines. Rasheed, DE Juwan Simpson and DE Funtaine Hunter all left the game due to injury last week. Calgary has brought in import defensive ends Jonal Saint-Dic and Charleston Hughes to compete for the chance to suit up in their spots against the Eskimos.
See you at kickoff time, let's hope for another all around solid performance from the Stamps.
