Choppy Affair: Stampeders 27 – Lions 22

August 8, 2010 · No Comments

All of the hubbub before the game surrounded a controversial Tweet Nik Lewis made in reference to Geroy Simon and the defensive secondary of BC. Comments swirled around Lewis' musings that the Lions defence liked to hit low. Well Nik Lewis is wrong, they didn't like it, they LIKE it, in that the BC Lions secondary is a bunch of laughable prospects who relish in the chance to end SB and WR careers. What those morons don't understand is when Calgary saw the Lions D took Lewis' playful comments seriously, the Stamps D responded with even more hellacious hits below waist.

After the dust settled the Stamps scrapped together another important divisional W and sit atop the West division alone. The Lions went 1-5 and the worst start in Wally Buono's coaching career. They also looked stupid when the likes of Davis Sanchez pulled the 'I've chopped Joffrey Reynolds below the knees and will emphatically make chop signs to show how tough and crappy my Lions team is'.

If anything the Lions should know that the Lewis v Simon debate only adds interest to the league. Those dude are probably best friends but secretly they contribute to pre-game antics to sell more tickets. At least that's how I picture it.

Back to the game. The Stamps are still trying to find a suitable groove in their offence. Although they capitalized on big plays and turnovers when it counted, they were too inconsistent in the first and third quarters to help keep the D off the field.

Defensively the Stamps gave Travis Lulay so many different looks, like lining 1 lineman on the line of scrimmage to full out blitz packages, to hold him to under 200 yards offence. Jarious Jackson came in late in the fourth and tried hurling long bombs, but it was too little to late.

Drew Tate threw his first CFL touchdown pass to Rob Cote after Burris sat out 3 plays after banging his head on the ground.

Stamps will look to improve their discipline, and work on reducing turnovers (Deon Murphy fumble and Burris 'one a game' interception).

Notes: Burris has now passed over 25,000 passing yards in his career. Next up, the hapless Eskimos Sunday.

And for the record Lewis had 44 yards catching and Simon had 37.
