The storybook ending for the likes of Doug Brown, playing perhaps his last game as a Bomber, didn't pan out as he'd like it. On the other side of the ball DE Brent Johnson may have played his last game, and if that's the case he'll go out a Grey Cup winner.
The Bombers lost to the BC Lions 23-34 in a game that never really looked like a contest.
The fact the Bombers made it out of the East is more of a testament to the strength of the East Division. (Actually, the playoff scenario was largely anti climatic with most teams plateauing mid-way through the season.) This wasn't a year where there was stiff competition from exceptional team.
THen again, maybe it just seemed like things were more balanced than years past because everyone looked average.
Winnipeg lost the game large in part due to their inadequate offence that rarely threatened to score, starting most drives behind their own 20. The run game was non-existent, and apart from a few long balls to Carr, the deep threat was mitigated as well.
Props to the Lions, they turned their season around after an 0 - 5 start. They deserved to win since they were certainly the best in the league going into the Grey Cup run.
As for the Stamps, there's always next year, but lots of work to do before training camp starts a mere 7 months away.
