Crucial End of Season Run Unseen by tens of thousands

**Edit: To the credit of the organization, they did lift the blackout LATE last week, although some people said they watched it fine. This week TELUS TV did not have the game until the second quarter, late, and Starchoice customers did..... All in all this is a matter of someone in management not getting the right information out in time---not a good excuse, especially two weeks in a row.***

There are few explanations for what's transpiring in the city that will host the 2009 Grey Cup which incidentally lines the pockets of owners with an extra game of 200 dollar tickets X 45,000 = over 1 million dollars extra.

For the second week in a row the Stampeders have blacked out the home game on national coverage, the first time they've blacked out in over a year, and the second time in as many weeks. Last week the team issued an explanation, not an apology, on why the game was blacked out which you can read here.

The reason? They didn't sell 90% of the seats. Why didn't they sell? Because the organization has ADDED Over 5000 seats. That means, last week the home game was the third highest attended home game of the season yet the game was blacked out because not enough seats for the NEW number were sold.

I said last week that home town fans will NEVER see the team on TV again because they won't sell 40 000 tickets for each home game, no CFL team does.

I didn't come out and say it last week, but it's clear this week, either the owners are GREEDY, or they have some bad management going on. All in all, it's a pathetic way for an organization to close the season on their fans. The last four games, two home games, will not be broadcast on TV. REALLY sucks when the season is only 18 games long.

Oh well, if they play that game I"ll just play mine and choose not to cover the Stamps when they're blacked out. You can vote with your feet by simply withdrawing from Stampeders stuff, stop going to games, and hit the organization square in the fattening wallet.

In an apparent 'culmination of events' the Calgary Stampeders released veteran middle-linebacker JoJuan Armour due to an on field incident that happened Friday.
The team made the announcement on Monday, a day before their pre-season finale Tuesday in Regina.
Armour, 32, was involved in an on-field incident during the Stamps’ practice on Friday that prompted Stamps coach and GM John Hufnagel to end practice early. He was entering his second season in Calgary.

With Armour gone, that opens the door for Lemarcus Rowell and rookie Tray Blackmon to replace Armour in the middle of the linebacking corps.

Here is a link to Al Cameron's thoughts. This one will be tough to sell to fans if the Stamps can't fill the middle linebacker position effectively early in the season.

A professional winning attitude, great players, and a dash of good coaching, capped off the Calgary Stampeders winning season with Coach John Hufnagel's award for Coach of the Year. Coach Huf took a Calgary team that showed glimpses of greatness in the past two seasons, and glimpses of mediocrity for what seemed like the entire 2000's, to win the Grey Cup in his first CFL head coaching season.

Props to Coach Huf, his staff of coaches, and to the Stamps. We can only expect more of the same this upcoming year, plus the game is at home. The bar has been set, let's hope the team can deliver again.
