The Stampeders have sent lineman Jesse Newman to BC for a 2011 2nd round selection in the CFL Draft and a conditional 2012 fourth-round pick. Newman left the Stamps abruptly at the beginning of the season and returned last week. In his absence the Stamps haven't missed a beat so his departure makes little difference to the team today.

You have to think that BC got the better of this deal, assuming Newman sticks around in football. He very well could anchor that O-line for the next 15 years, assuming he sticks around.

The Stamps on the other hand may end up with an unassuming 2nd rounder for a blue chip O lineman.... But, that's probably all they could've received for him anyways.

Calgary selected Nemwan in the first round (third overall) of the 2008 CFL Canadian Draft. He dressed for 30 games over his first two seasons.

The Calgary Stampeders continued their rout of veteran players today by shipping standout SB Jermain Copeland to the Toronto Argonauts for WR P.K. Sam. The Stampeders recently let kicker Sandro DeAngelis go last week, this week it's Copeland. The Argos pick up Copeland, and a larger salary, as wll as 850 more yards in receiving and six times the number of TD's than Sam.

It seems Calgary is content with their current slotback situation and though they'd save some extra cash with Copeland. No word on who's going out next, or who will replace Copeland at slotback.

Word out of Stamps camp is that Sandrio Deangelis won't be returning as a Stampeder. I thought he was going to the NFL, but it seems with the latest release from the Stampeders they're cutting ties completely. This is a bit surprising given the fact kickers in the CFL generally stick with their teams (in the league) for 20 years which means Sandro had a good solid 15 years left .

Not only that, Sandro was good, and finding good kickers in a pool of 'not many' is hard. Maybe some unknown will emerge since jobs in the NFL are limited, but fact is someone else will be given the duty of winning clutch games this coming season.

Given Sandro's quality kicking it leads me to believe two things: 1) He's off to the NFL, 2) he asked for too much money here (over 150K).

More details to follow as they emerge.

The Calgary Stampeders have acquired receivers Romby Bryant and Arjei Franklin from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in a deal for receivers Jabari Arthur and Titus Ryan, plus defensive lineman Odell Willis.

Calgary also gets a third-round pick in 2010 and the rights to an unnamed negotiation-list player, while fourth and sixth round picks in 2010 also went to Winnipeg.

You expected Calgary to deal with the loss of Thelwell and Rambo no closer to returning. here is the break down of the trade from our perspective.

Odell Willis started the season strong but tapered off in the past four games. He became expendable with the return of Charleston Hughes, a healthy Labinjo, and Terrius George.

You knew the writing on the wall was there for Tius Ryan who rarely contributed offensively and also became a liability on punt returns. The butter fingers Ryan couldn't hang on to the ball in the past two games and you had t he sense his time was done.

That leaves Arthur who had the most promise of the group but was hampered by injuries. He may emerge to be a useful Canadian receiver so time will tell what type of loss he will be.

Calgary receives two game ready receivers in Bryant, 29, is in his second CFL season and has 20 catches for 232 yards and no touchdowns through 11 games. Last season, he led the Bombers with 1,205 yards and nine touchdowns on 65 receptions.

Franklin, 27, has missed most of this season with an ankle injury and has five catches for 53 yards.

The Stamps cut their roster down today and some key names have gone which may leave Stamps fans scratching their heads. The big names were mostly on the defensive side. On the defensive line Terrance Patrick is no longer in the mix, once highly touted under the Creehan regime. Same goes with Trey Young, a fan favorite for his monstrous hits. This one makes the least sense but what can you do with the ratios the CFL imposes. Young was probably one of the better safety's in the league, however, was moved to linebacker because Calgary wanted to use two Canadians at the spot (Lysack and Kharikari). That meant Yound had to try his can at lineback which he did. Turns out the team wants to keep Matt Grootegoed at middle lineback. I haven't seen Grootegoed make plays for a while, he's small and subject to mistakes on the line. But perhaps things have changed since......
Lastly Crance Clemons was released in a tough competition at the talented DB position. That means all QB's are still around and new DB markus howell. Also both RB prospects are still around. Here is the full list of cuts.

• Defensive lineman Terrence Patrick*
• Linebacker Trey Young*
• Cornerback Crance Clemons*
• Receiver Nate Curry*
• Defensive back Jesse Burton*
• Receiver Eddie Montgomery*
• Offensive lineman Tom Dolezel
• Defensive lineman Charleston Hughes*
• Defensive lineman Hakeem Kashama
• Receiver Reggie Williams*
• Defensive back Sean Manning
• Fullback Jonathan Lapointe
• Defensive back Willie Byrd*
• Defensive back Milton Collins*
• Receiver Greg Hetherington
• Receiver James Banks*

On June 18th the Calgary Sun continued their eighth grade media coverage by kicking up fuss over new tail-gaiting rules at McMahon Stadium. The article was essentially complaining the the Stamps were going to crack down on the 'fun' for the sake of a few drunks. I've been to all pro-games in Calgary and can say with safety that the Stampeder experience is the most raw. Cheaper tickets and pro games = more drunk fans cursing and cussing by your kids. The Stamps want to curtail this behaviour and I say high five.

New Tail-Gate Rules

Basically the cleanup is worthwhile, get bogus fans who sit in the parking lot and drink beer while listening to the game on the radio out. But will the tail-gate experience suffer from new rules?

Here is the official release from the Stamps. Essentially what changes is you can't tail-gate after one hour into the game. But who cares, you're in the game already right?

Your thoughts?
