Tail-gaiting rules change at Mcmahon Stadium

June 20th, 2008 · No Comments

On June 18th the Calgary Sun continued their eighth grade media coverage by kicking up fuss over new tail-gaiting rules at McMahon Stadium. The article was essentially complaining the the Stamps were going to crack down on the 'fun' for the sake of a few drunks. I've been to all pro-games in Calgary and can say with safety that the Stampeder experience is the most raw. Cheaper tickets and pro games = more drunk fans cursing and cussing by your kids. The Stamps want to curtail this behaviour and I say high five.

Frist to Go: Stamps Cut Two

June 16th, 2008 · No Comments

The Stampeders released offensive linemen Jermese Jones and Brady Ramseier and defensive back Chijioke Onyenegecha on Sunday morning. It seems the imports on the o-line have been more impressive than Jones, a starter last year for Saskatchewan.

Anthony Gargiulo Announces Retirement

June 3rd, 2008 · 1 Comment

Anthony Gargiulo, a linebacker from last year's Stamps, announced his retirement after only one season of play. The move comes after Gargiulo's receipt of a devastating and dirty chop block from the BC Lions Jason Jimenez. The retirement permits his return if he can heal from the broken leg and also clears cap room for the Stamps. The Stamps to hold onto his rights should he come back.

Stampeders Release Linebackers Scott Coe and Brian Clark

March 20th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Two weeks ago veteran linebacker Brian Clark was released by the Stamps. Today, non-import Canadian Scott Coe was given his walking papers. Both linebackers were once feared linebackers in the league, now it seems the new 4-3 defensive scheme and salary issues forced the team to let them go.

It's sad to see the mainstays take off, it really signals more of the 'new regime'. But at the end of the day, housecleaning means a potentially better team tomorrow. Let's hope that's the case.

Akili Smith Booted from Stamps

October 10th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Without showing any degree of promise, and with Ben Sankey playing 30 minutes of semi-good football, Calgary has parted ways with the once highly touted NFL QB Akili Smith. Jim Barker confirmed this yesterday. This also means Burris healed quicker than expected. I for one would give Sankey the start cause the last thing we need is Burris out longer......

Defensive Casualities: Chatman Released, Brightful Signed

July 17th, 2007 · No Comments

It appears that the two blowout losses have claimed the first casualties--all on defence. This has come as a bit of a surprise to some, but then again, when you invest all your money in wide receivers you can't exactly let them go. It appears the first to go was defensive back Jermaine Chatman who was a steady back last season but was schooled by Dj Flick against Saskatchewan, and then again by Arland Bruce against Toronto.

Big Weekend Moves Before Home Opener

June 23rd, 2007 · No Comments

Here is a recap of what's gone down roster wise, lots of moves were made, some very tough. The Stamps depleted O-line was reinforced through a trade that saw Canadian offensive lineman Rob Lazeo and a 2009 conditional draft pick come from Saskatchewan in exchange for standout second year import RB Wes Cates.

The Stamps also acquired future considerations from the Montreal Alouettes in exchange for defensive back Coby Rhinehart who was an MVP last year.
