The Stampeders are taking the 2008 season seriously, serious enough to stop a number of dubious records including no wins in Skydome since 2001. Despite a slow first half the Stamps managed to put up points against the sporadic and inconsistent Argonauts.

It couldn't be a better, home and home series against the league's worst team (not by points but by recent play.) Calgary is starting to play series and dominant football on all sides of the game. Once touted as a quality offence, the defence is now turning heads and coming up big. Play makers are starting to assert themselves on the defence, and although they didn't face a worthy Toronto opponent, the improvement of the team is something to make fans excited for what could be. Turns out JR Ruffing never really left town and even spent time visiting the team at practices. He's been signed to the practice roster amidst the concussion suffered by DB Collins in the game against Montreal. More interesting news is the release of Xavier Lee from the practice roster. As a fourth string QB the guy probably got misinformation about his role with the team. We're seeing a lot of rhetoric on the newswire from guys coming up to the CFL, expect to chill out on the practice roster for a week or two, and get into game action....of course that rarely happens. Not sure about Lee's circumstances so let's not speculate since assumptions make ASSes out of U and ME.
In a match that would prove whether Calgary was a team that routinely takes 1 step forward and three back, Montreal visited the Stamps in hopes of beating a team that hasn't seen much success at home this year. Calgary recently came off a road-win in the second half of the Battle of Alberta CFL style to face the East leading Alouettes. Many sports writers predicted that Montreal would find out that the division between East and West is huge....turns out they were mostly right in this game.

Calgary was dominated, embarrassed, manhandled, whatever word you want to use, in the Battle of Alberta Labour Day Classic in Calgary. Imagine, the most important game of the season and what do you get? A boring outing by the home team. How would Calgary respond? They said all the right things but would they put their talk into action on the field?
First Half:
Would the real Stamps show up? First series, first play, BANG, bad snap, live ball, Edmonton recovery, endzone trot, touchdown Edmonton. Great, that kind of Stamps. Luckily the offence came back and methodically marched down the field and scored three. All in all the Stamps dominated the first half 10-8 (the only points the offence made were off a single). However, things would turn completely around after the first.

Just like that, a little hit on the side and bang, the chronic head problem man at 36 Dave Dickenson is out for nine games. He was damaged goods to begin with but did we really thing an innocent play in the third quarter would cause the damage it did? Dickenson was placed on the nine-game injured reserve list and the Stampeders have filled the back up roll with Ben Sankey (or perhaps third stringer).
How bad do you want it? Second place that is. Clearly the Calgary Stampeders knew the magnitude of the game being both the Labour Day Classic -- huge
Telus TV subscribers missed the first five minutes of the game as the noobs tried to figure out how to work their system. TSN blacked out the game but they brought it back on their alternate feed (so they never really technically blacked it out) but Telus TV does not provide subscribers with a TSN ALT feed. So you just sat there watching a blank screen ready to scream. Turns out, it wouldn't matter, as Edmonton dominated from the opening kick-off.

Gotta love the Stamps blog, they are doing a great job profiling players on a regular basis. Makes us think we should just go out of business.... but then who would say the things everyone thinks but won't say?
