Home opener: Stampeders V. Lions

June 26, 2008 Categories: Pre Game · No Comments

The Calgary Stampeders will kick off the 2008 CFL regular season at home tonight against West division rivals the B.C. Lions. Game time is 8:00PM to accommodate national TSN coverage. Looks like a sell-out as fans are excited to see the new look Stamps. Included in the new faces are head coach John Hufnagel, new DB's, a nearly new OL, and linebacking corp.

Stampeders Make First Cuts – Vets Young, Patrick, Clemons Gone

June 21, 2008 Categories: Transactions · No Comments

The Stamps cut their roster down today and some key names have gone which may leave Stamps fans scratching their heads. The big names were mostly on the defensive side. On the defensive line Terrance Patrick is no longer in the mix, once highly touted under the Creehan regime. Same goes with Trey Young, a fan favorite for his monstrous hits. This one makes the least sense but what can you do with the ratios the CFL imposes. Young was probably one of the better safety's in the league, however, was moved to linebacker because Calgary wanted to use two Canadians at the spot (Lysack and Kharikari). That meant Yound had to try his can at lineback which he did. Turns out the team wants to keep Matt Grootegoed at middle lineback. I haven't seen Grootegoed make plays for a while, he's small and subject to mistakes on the line. But perhaps things have changed since......

Tail-gaiting rules change at Mcmahon Stadium

June 20, 2008 Categories: Stampeders News · Transactions · No Comments

On June 18th the Calgary Sun continued their eighth grade media coverage by kicking up fuss over new tail-gaiting rules at McMahon Stadium. The article was essentially complaining the the Stamps were going to crack down on the 'fun' for the sake of a few drunks. I've been to all pro-games in Calgary and can say with safety that the Stampeder experience is the most raw. Cheaper tickets and pro games = more drunk fans cursing and cussing by your kids. The Stamps want to curtail this behaviour and I say high five.

Didn't have a chance to go to Vancouver and watch the game (not that I ever would have). Didn't listen to the radio either. Here is the local coverage on the game.

Frist to Go: Stamps Cut Two

June 16, 2008 Categories: Transactions · No Comments

The Stampeders released offensive linemen Jermese Jones and Brady Ramseier and defensive back Chijioke Onyenegecha on Sunday morning. It seems the imports on the o-line have been more impressive than Jones, a starter last year for Saskatchewan.

Stamps Stomp in Pre-season 39-14

June 13, 2008 Categories: Post Game · No Comments

A quarterbacking controversy? Probably not. A Grey Cup? Probably. Ah, it's only pre-season game 1 but people are very excited to see a Stampeder club that looks DOMINANT. All facets of the game came together from kick-off as the Stamps bowled over provincial rivals Edmonton in the first of two pre-season tilts. Each QB had a chance to play, each made plays, each made scores. Keeping all four will be tough, but man, Calgary may very well have the most depth at QB in the league--something they haven't been able to say since Dave Dickenson was last in Red & White (some seven years ago).
