Some of the worst officiating in recent memory in a playoff game was experienced in the West division final between Calgary and Saskatchewan. Incredibly, time after time head scratching calls were made against the home team in favour of the more popular visiting squad.
Alas, you have to wonder what went on in this game to make it pan out the way it did. Two things are clear. The poor officiating will be reviewed, probably internally, and it DID change the complexion of the game in a big way (Bryant's taunting call? WOW....) But it was the overall play for 60 minutes by the Stamps that lost the game in the end.
3 Things to expand upon when dissecting the abhorrent anomalies in tonight's officiating.

If you could describe the last month of football for the Calgary Stampeders you could use a rollercoaster chart. Indicative of their play, the Stamps have been way up and way down. Four lopsided losses or wins plus a win vs. Saskatchewan in between sum it up.
Last night Calgary absolutely thumped and humped the hapless Hamilton Ti-Cats for their 12th win of the season.

The Flames surely don't like to make things easy. A single win in the last three games would give the team a bye into the West Division Final. Playing on the other side of the field was shotty BC team that despite an up and down season surprisingly destroyed Calgary three weeks ago.
All this to say the Stamps had plenty of reasons to arrive prepared. They did not.

Final Score: Calgary 34 - Saskatchewan 26
Seems the Stamps took a page out of the Flames handbook coming from behind after a slow start to win a crucial game against a divisional rival.
After completely dropping the ball (no pun intended) twice in the last three games, the consistent Stamps were sought after in this afternoon's game in hostile Mosaic stadium.
Although there are still questions about Calgary's complete game, their second half dominance make the hillbilly chants of 'Henry' look stupid.

The Calgary Stampeders were blown out in a massive way for the second time in three games. What's wrong with this mistake-prone team? I've been a long time believer in Henry Burris, but his inconsistencies are killing this team. Early in the season he was still throwing interceptions, but the team scored enough points to win. Not so anymore. 5 turnovers in the game obliterated any hope Calgary had to even put up a fight.
All facets of the game were off, and since this happened two weeks ago v. BC you have to think this is a preparation issue from coaches down to players. You'd expect better from a John Hufnagel team but wow, no words can describe the poor display of football the Stampeders put in this afternoon. Happy Thanksgiving--not!

What a huge comeback game for the Stamps. After crapping the bed by only posting 3 points (let's not count the last minute touchdown) against BC the week prior, the Stampeders responded to critics with a convincing win over the East division leader Montreal Alouettes. Al Cameron with the game review. I just want to add that I found the reason the offence licked wasn't so much Burris as it was the receivers out trying to make a huge point they're number one. The yards after the catch were huge, and that ultimately gave the Stamps the chance to pull away.
Now they have to do in Montreal next week. Go Stamps!
You didn't think it could get worse following the loss against Saskatchewan last week, but it seems as though the seems are starting to burst. No need to throw anybody under the bus--yet--but wow, you really expected a better effort from the Stampeders.
Sure, their defensive line was overhauled because of injuries, but it wasn't the D who failed to show.

The once heralded Canadian RB Jesse Lumsden has signed with the Stampeders to the team's practice roster. No word on how he'll fit into the grand scheme of things, but hey, if the guy wants to play for minimum money mind as well give him a shot. There's one thing for certain though, there's no room in the back field for him with standout Canadian Jon Cornish and all-star Joffrey Reynolds leading a 1-2 punch.
Why would the Stamps bother to sign the fullback? Well, I surmise it's mostly to do with potential. There's potential he could make the team better, and at one point (assuming health) he was a highly touted prospect in the CFL. It probably helps that Lumsden lives in Calgary and practice roster money helps supplement his passion to get back on the field.
