Can't say if the score for this game was an accurate reflection of the two teams, or if the Stamps should have added a few points to their number. Although Calgary is improving from their debacle in Toronto 2 weeks ago, they still have work to do, particularly in the area of giveaways.
The rain held off for the evening which trumpeted the return of beloved 2008 WR Kenyon Rambo. Rambo returned from a nasty knee tear that took a year to heal. It started the game at slotback and registered the first TD of the game. Nice to see him back and we'll probably see him back at WR soon if the Stamps can figure out the import ratio on offence.

Nobody was really sure how the Stamps would perform against the so-called league best Saskatchewan Roughriders. The offence has largely underperformed through the first three games of the early CFL season. The defence has generally stood tall and kept games close. Add the intense rivalry that exists between these two teams and you have set the stage for the first of 3 games to be played this year.
Calgary got off to an early start marching the ball down the field, however, red-zone production continues to be an issue. Although Calgary seemed to dominate the play in the first half, the score was 7-7 and the possession was almost 50-50.

Quick turnarounds aren't kind to the Calgary Stampeders. Having eeked out a win 5 days ago in Hamilton, the team jumped into Toronto tonight in attempt to go 3-0 in the season. Although Milt Stegall is an absolute moron with his comments that the Stamps have already peaked 2 games into the season and are mediocre at best, there were some elements that made the team look average--I'm thinking particularly the offence who did little to help pull out a win when needed.
The entire offence seemed to be out-of-sync dropping numerous balls on important downs and untimely turnovers.

Stampeders 23 - Ti-Cats 22
The scene was picture perfect. Beautiful weather, a half full stands, and ex-Calgary Stampeders kicker Sandro Deangelis facing off against new Calgary Stampeders kicker Rob Maver. Deangelis left the Stampeders to be closer to home in the off-season (although in his TV interview on TSN he said Hamilton gave him the best chance to win a Grey Cup and that's why he made the switch, which is bogus of course because Hamilton won't win a Grey Cup anytime soon.)
Maver on the other hand was selected first overall in this year's entry draft by the Stampeders who looked to fill big shoes left by the league's best placekicker.
Adding interest to the game Nik Lewis added some more interest to the game with some off-field comments (which weren't that disparaging IMO) about Deangelis' departure likening him to a cocky face in the dressing room. Regardless of pregame antics all that mattered was the final score where after a last second successful field-goal by Maver and a failed 60 yard attempt by Deangelis (which would've really turned the tables), gave the Stampeders their first 2-0 start in a decade.

The Calgary Stampeders opened up their CFL 2010 season at home on Canada Day pleasing the local crowd to an exciting win. The game was closer than the final score of 30-16, 7 points picked up in the final minute by the defense.
The first game of the season always has additional interest since it's the first time fans get to see the new faces on the team.

Around in the NFL for quite some time now, the CFL has now implemented technology that will allow QBs to hear play calls in their helmets (assuming they aren't hit so hard the technology goes bonkers....)
The CFL made the announcement today: http://www.cfl.ca/article/cfl-introduces-qb-wireless-headsets. How it works is pretty interesting. It's one way communicae, and it shuts off with 10 seconds left on the play clock. Many plays don't get off in that time period so prepare for QBs to still rely on hand signals.
Well we're getting back into the swing of things as training camp opened and the pre-season is about to start for the Calgary Stampeders. The season looks exciting, as always, and the team, well the team has a few holes. By a few I mean quite a few. We'll look at the changes in greater details in the coming days.
In the meantime, check out the new look of Stampeders Forum. We went with something a bit simpler, hope you enjoy. Add us to your readers and be sure to comment back. Also, we're on twitter @flamesstamps.

The Calgary Stampeders continued their rout of veteran players today by shipping standout SB Jermain Copeland to the Toronto Argonauts for WR P.K. Sam. The Stampeders recently let kicker Sandro DeAngelis go last week, this week it's Copeland. The Argos pick up Copeland, and a larger salary, as wll as 850 more yards in receiving and six times the number of TD's than Sam.
It seems Calgary is content with their current slotback situation and though they'd save some extra cash with Copeland. No word on who's going out next, or who will replace Copeland at slotback.
