First off, as it was announced, Brandon Smith will be calling it a career at the end of this season. He has been a Stampeder for his entire career and has quietly gone about his business cementing his legacy as one of the best DBs in franchise history. We’ll miss his presence in the secondary and wish him all the best.

I remember meeting him randomly at Chicken on the Way years ago. Just a nice dude.

As for the Stampeders this past weekend, they hold their own destiny, and who’s dialled in to delivery results is none other than Bo Mitchell.

The home v home series against Winnipeg is great football to watch as each team vies for home playoff advantage. The game on saturday did not disappoint, coming down to the last seconds of the 4th quarter before victory was assured. Calgary seemed to control the game from the get go, but second quarter mistakes, all in a span of two minutes, came close to burying them early.

14 points off of turnovers early is no easy deficit to overcome, but the Stampeders clawed back to do it.

The usual achilles heals for the Stampeders as they prep once again for Winnipeg. The linebacker corps is in need of help, but none will be coming. Cory Greenwood on the 6 game with a concussion. His replacement picked up at the deadline out with a blown knee. So there’s a gap down the middle and Winnipeg took full advantage running nearly 200 yards.

But that’s all they could muster. Despite heroics from Streveler, you need a complete offensive package and Winnipeg couldn’t deliver.

Calgary’s offence picked up speed, and the O-Line credited with giving Mitchell time to throw. On the ground things were shaky with Litre starting his first in his career. Special teams once again giving up big plays and making none of their own.

Calgary can win out and enjoy the bye into the playoff Western Finals. BUt they need to take care of business in the final two games before that can happen. In the meantime, a lot of features in the game they could shore up before playoff time.
